Day 2

Shorter day today from Brixton to Bolzano, IT. Gradual downhill made the 45KM trip in 3.5 hours. Riding along the heavy flowing river, like the Truckee used to be in the 60's, Apple vines, and grapes line the bike path. In a car or an RV, you could never experience the country like this.  The sights, sounds and smells and the conversations with my daughter, Germans, Italians and the French riders.  No Americans here, they are all zoom, google meet and slack.

What We're About

Who We Are

I am a 14 year Neuroendrocine Cancer survivor. I am determined to live a long life! So, I persevere, overcoming 4 surgeries, 4 rounds of radiation and a colostomy bag. I try to immerse myself with positive people and a positive attitude. I gather strength physically and emotionally by riding with my three daughters. This 12-day trip will take my daughter, Julia and I through Austria and end in Venice, IT. The Alps will be tough with the elevations, but I am confident we will prevail. I will blog daily on our progress and trials and tribulations of this venture. I so appreciate your interest and helping us generate funds.

Steve Jobs and Aretha Franklin both died of Neuroendrocine Cancer.

At age 17, I hit a golf ball from San Francisco to Los Angeles for no reason, but now I have a reason for this Odyssey!

Fundraiser

I am dedicating this fund raising venture to my friend Michael Balash and his wife Debbie. Michael, from Davis, CA, lost his fight with this cancer this month, and so I ride for him. Treatments for this rare cancer are beginning to have some results through some new clinical trials.  I hope to generate funds for patients who need assistance on meeting the needs of the clinical trials. If you click on "Make a Contribution" button above, you will be directed to the NORCAL NETS support group website and they will offer a link to donate to this cause.

About Michael Balash

Michael and I would talk regularly about our challenges, our medical and emotional needs. Michael was truly a man of strength and warmth. He was 5 year Vietnam veteran and 27 year fireman for the Sacramento Fire Department. He was a tough guy and always wanted to listen to how I was feeling before talking about himself even in his last days.

I know he will be sitting on my shoulders throughout this ride in Europe.
